UKTV
Case Study
metaCore was the perfect tool to map that business process and quickly deliver a
single management system for all UKTV's listings and listings-related data.
UKTV had over a dozen different and non-integrated systems that managed (several
copies of) listings data for their television programmes. Each new use of the data
required separate development work, and the business process through which the data
was gathered and maintained was poorly understood. metaCore was the perfect tool
to map that business process and quickly deliver a single management system for
all UKTV's listings and listings-related data.
The Listings Management project for UKTV transformed the way it interacts with its
key business asset – its programme information. From the start the specification
process was not based around a 'this screen should do X' approach, but rather was
an extensive investigation of how UKTV used listings information and what would
constitute best practice use of that information.
From this business process description, we used our metaCore tool to generate an
implementation of that business process. This accounted for 95% of the overall solution.
The benefits of this approach included an excellent fit to requirements, low project
risk, short timescales, and the ability for UKTV to review interim versions of the
system, highlighting weaknesses in the business process and allowing them to be
addressed during development. metaCore's adoption of open standards, in particular
XML and Web Services, has ensured that the solution integrates seamlessly with other
systems, and continues to meet UKTV's changing business requirements, with demonstrable
improvements in data quality, consistency and timeliness.
